I recently posted on IG about a new study by ASICS & Dr Brendan Stubbs (legend) where 15 minutes of movement had some pretty big impacts.
Desk based workers from 16 countries participated in the ādesk breakā experiment which set out to explore the extent to which daily 5 minute movement snacks could impact mood, reduce stress and enhance performance at work.
In week one, participants were told not to take desk breaks.
In week two, they were asked to exercise for 15 minutes after three to four hours of work.
After just one week of regular movement snacks, participantsā State of Mind scores increased by 22.5%. Average confidence levels increased by 13.3%, anxiety levels decreased by 12% and perceived stress levels decreased by 14.7%.
As well as pinpointing the mental effects of physical activity on desk-based workers, the experiment also studied the impact of movement on brain activity using EEGs.
Post-exercise, activity across the frontal, central and limbic regions of the brain increased, resulting in enhanced focus, reduced stress and improved sense of calm.
This actually terrified me - how would I feel right now if I wasnāt doing my regular walks and workouts??
Asics are also doing a desk break challenge where you can help raise money for Mind - the mental health charity. From their websiteā¦
Be part of the #DeskBreak movement and feel the mental benefits. Take a 15-minute Desk Break* and share an image of your empty desk with #DeskBreak. Every image shared will raise £5 for mental health charity Mind.
Add the #DeskBreak sticker to your empty desk image and share it on social media.
